Why this Admonition?
- To elucidate the status and attributes of the Quran.
- To remind us of the Quran's greatness.
- To clarify the rights of the Quran upon us.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god except Allah, the One and Only, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. After praising Allah and sending blessings upon His Prophet, we are truly blessed by Allah with a great favor: the revelation of the Quran to His servant and Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. This is indeed a great blessing for which we should be grateful and express our joy, as Allah Almighty says..."{يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ قَدْ جَاءَتْكُمْ مَوْعِظَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَشِفَاءٌ لِمَا فِي الصُّدُورِ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ * قُلْ بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَبِرَحْمَتِهِ فَبِذَلِكَ فَلْيَفْرَحُوا هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ}" [يونس: 57، 58]
If we contemplate the virtues and characteristics mentioned of this noble book, we would see much that is great and extraordinary.
1-One of the characteristics of the Quran is that Allah Almighty has described it as a noble and exalted book; Allah says : {وَإِنَّهُ لَكِتَابٌ عَزِيزٌ * لَا يَأْتِيهِ الْبَاطِلُ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَلَا مِنْ خَلْفِهِ تَنْزِيلٌ مِنْ حَكِيمٍ حَمِيدٍ} [فصلت: 41، 42] his is a magnificent description of Allah's Book. The term 'azaz' (might, power) connotes a multitude of meanings; such as strength, power, dominance, elevation, and inviolability. Nothing can be described as 'aziz' unless it possesses all these attributes
2-A further characteristic of the Quran is that had it been revealed upon the solid mountains, they would have split apart; as Allah says...{لَوْ أَنْزَلْنَا هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَى جَبَلٍ لَرَأَيْتَهُ خَاشِعًا مُتَصَدِّعًا مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ} [الحشر: 21].
3-Another of its characteristics is that it is the final book of the previous scriptures, and it is the dominant book over all the other books that Allah Almighty has revealed; as Allah says: {وَأَنْزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ بِالْحَقِّ مُصَدِّقًا لِمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَمُهَيْمِنًا عَلَيْهِ} [المائدة: 48].
4-A further characteristic of the Quran is that it is described as a blessed book; as Allah says: {وَهَذَا كِتَابٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ مُبَارَكٌ مُصَدِّقُ الَّذِي بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ} [الأنعام: 92]، وقال تعالى: {وَهَذَا كِتَابٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ مُبَارَكٌ فَاتَّبِعُوهُ وَاتَّقُوا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ} [الأنعام: 155]] and Allah says: {وَهَذَا ذِكْرٌ مُبَارَكٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ أَفَأَنْتُمْ لَهُ مُنْكِرُونَ} [الأنبياء: 50] and Allah says:{كِتَابٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ} [ص: 29].
The blessing (barakah) is the abundance of good that continuously increases. This means that the good of the Quran is vast, ever-increasing, and never-ending. Its blessings encompass everything, as the verses do not specify any particular blessing for a specific aspect of the Quran, rather, its blessings encompass all things. The esteemed scholar Ibn Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: "Allah has described the Quran as blessed, and there is no doubt that it is so. It is blessed in its recitation, blessed in its impact, and blessed in its influence; it is blessed in every kind of blessing, from every perspective." One of its blessings is that for every letter of it, there is a reward, and the reward of one good deed is multiplied tenfold or even more. Ibn Masud, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:«من قرأ حرفًا من كتاب الله فله حسنة، والحسنة بعشر أمثالها، لا أقول: ألم حرف، ولكن: ألف حرف، ولام حرف، وميم حرف»؛ (رواه الترمذي، وقال: حديث حسن صحيح).
5-Another of its characteristics is its miraculous nature and the challenge posed with it
. Allah Almighty challenged the polytheists to produce something like it, even though they were people of language and eloquence at that time; as Allah says : {قُلْ لَئِنِ اجْتَمَعَتِ الْإِنْسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلَى أَنْ يَأْتُوا بِمِثْلِ هَذَا الْقُرْآنِ لَا يَأْتُونَ بِمِثْلِهِ وَلَوْ كَانَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ ظَهِيرًا} [الإسراء: 88] ana Allah says:أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُ بَلْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ * فَلْيَأْتُوا بِحَدِيثٍ مِثْلِهِ إِنْ كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ} [الطور: 33، 34].
And He challenged them to produce ten chapters like it; as Allah Almighty says: {أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ قُلْ فَأْتُوا بِعَشْرِ سُوَرٍ مِثْلِهِ مُفْتَرَيَاتٍ وَادْعُوا مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ} [هود: 13].
And He challenged them to produce a single chapter like it; as Allah Almighty says:{أَمْ يَقُولُونَ افْتَرَاهُ قُلْ فَأْتُوا بِسُورَةٍ مِثْلِهِ وَادْعُوا مَنِ اسْتَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ} [يونس: 38].
Furthermore, Allah challenged them to produce a single comparable chapter; as Allah says:{وَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ فِي رَيْبٍ مِمَّا نَزَّلْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِنَا فَأْتُوا بِسُورَةٍ مِنْ مِثْلِهِ وَادْعُوا شُهَدَاءَكُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ * فَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلُوا وَلَنْ تَفْعَلُوا فَاتَّقُوا النَّارَ الَّتِي وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْكَافِرِينَ} [البقرة: 23، 24].
6-Another of its characteristics is that it is guidance for all of humanity.
Allah Almighty has made it a guide for people to the paths of peace, an exit for the servants from darkness to light, and a guide to the straight path; as Allah says:{يَهْدِي بِهِ اللَّهُ مَنِ اتَّبَعَ رِضْوَانَهُ سُبُلَ السَّلَامِ وَيُخْرِجُهُمْ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ بِإِذْنِهِ وَيَهْدِيهِمْ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ} [المائدة: 16]،Instead, it leads to what is more virtuous; as Allah says:{إِنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ} [الإسراء: 9].
7-Furthermore, it is the sole divine scripture that Allah has committed Himself to preserving. He has not entrusted its preservation to any angel or prophet, but has taken it upon Himself to safeguard it before, during, and after its revelation.
Concerning its preservation before its revelation, Allah states:
Concerning Allah's preservation of the Quran during its revelation, Allah says:{
Concerning its preservation After its revelation, Allah states.:{
Furthermore, Allah has facilitated its preservation through various means, including:
A-Allah has facilitated the memorization of the Quran; as Allah says: {
B-Allah raised righteous individuals to receive and memorize it in their hearts; as Allah says:{بَلْ هُوَ آيَاتٌ بَيِّنَاتٌ فِي صُدُورِ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ وَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِآيَاتِنَا إِلَّا الظَّالِمُونَ} [العنكبوت: 49].
C-Allah raised scholars from this nation to compile it in written form and protect it from corruption and alteration.”
8-One of its distinguished attributes, and a testament to its grandeur, is the multitude of its names. These names have been enumerated as ninety-five by al-Zarkashi, may Allah have mercy upon him, in his book "al-Burhan fi 'Ulum al-Quran," and others have cited even more. This multiplicity of names signifies the exalted status and honor of the Quran."
For it is the Quran; as Allah Almighty says:{إِنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ الصَّالِحَاتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا كَبِيرًا} [الإسراء: 9]، and Allah Says: {كِتَابٌ فُصِّلَتْ آيَاتُهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ} [فصلت: 3], The word 'Quran' originally means 'recitation'. It is mentioned seventy-three times in the Quran and is its most common name.
And it is the Criterion (al-Furqan); as Allah Almighty says:{تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْفُرْقَانَ عَلَى عَبْدِهِ لِيَكُونَ لِلْعَالَمِينَ نَذِيرًا} [الفرقان: 1]،It was given this name because it discerns between right and wrong with irrefutable evidence, establishing the truth and exposing falsehood.
And it is the guidance; as Allah Almighty says:{هُدًى لِلْمُتَّقِينَ} [البقرة: 2]، And Says: {هُدًى لِلنَّاسِ} [البقرة: 185].
Indeed, it is the clarification, as Allah states:{هَذَا بَيَانٌ لِلنَّاسِ وَهُدًى وَمَوْعِظَةٌ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ} [آل عمران: 138], because Allah Almighty has clarified therein the good, the truth, and the path to happiness.
Indeed, it is the healing, curing both physical and spiritual diseases, as Allah states:{وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ} [الإسراء: 82]، and Says: {وَشِفَاءٌ لِمَا فِي الصُّدُورِ} [يونس: 57].
Indeed, it is the clarification, as Allah says:هَذَا بَيَانٌ لِلنَّاسِ وَهُدًى وَمَوْعِظَةٌ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ} [آل عمران: 138]؛},Because Allah Almighty has clarified therein the good, the truth, and the path to happiness.
Indeed, it is the reminder, as Allah states: {وَإِنَّهُ لَذِكْرٌ لَكَ وَلِقَوْمِكَ وَسَوْفَ تُسْأَلُونَ} [الزخرف: 44]، وقال تعالى: {إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ} [الحجر: 9]،and Allah Says {وَأَنْزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الذِّكْرَ لِتُبَيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ} [النحل: 44] , The reminder signifies Allah's guidance to His servants, outlining the commandments and laws. It is a privilege bestowed upon those who believe in it and its truth.
Indeed, it is the book, as Allah states:ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ هُدًى لِلْمُتَّقِينَ} [البقرة: 2]}
Indeed, it is the light, as Allah states:{
Indeed, it is the admonition, as Allah states:{
The Quran is known by many names, each highlighting a different aspect of its divine nature. However, these names are all interconnected and ultimately refer to the same sacred text.
One of its great attributes is the abundance of descriptions used to describe it.
9-One of its great attributes, and a testament to its grandeur, is that it is a perpetually fresh book, its wonders never fading. As a result, the sciences that explore its various dimensions have greatly multiplied.
Al-Zarkashi, in his "Al-Burhan fi 'Ulum al-Quran," and al-Suyuti, in his more comprehensive "Al-Itqan fi 'Ulum al-Quran," respectively catalogued forty-seven and eighty distinct branches of Quranic studies. These encompass a wide range of disciplines, from the circumstances of revelation (temporal, spatial, contextual) to the sciences of recitation, linguistics, and interpretation. The extensive body of scholarship devoted to these subjects underscores the Quran's enduring relevance and its capacity to stimulate intellectual inquiry.
Al-Zarkashi, may Allah have mercy upon him, classified them in his book "Al-Burhan fi 'Ulum al-Quran" into forty-seven types, while Imam al-Suyuti, may Allah have mercy upon him, classified them in his book "Al-Itqan fi 'Ulum al-Quran" into eighty types of Quranic sciences.
(a) Some of these sciences relate to the time and place of revelation, such as Meccan and Medinan, urban and rural, night and day, summer and winter, and the contextual verses, as well as the reasons for revelation.
(b) Others relate to the chain of transmission, such as the mutawatir and ahad readings, the Prophet's readings, peace be upon him, and the narrators and memorizers among the Companions and their followers.
(c) Others relate to recitation, such as pausing and starting, rules of tajweed, and the science of readings.
(d) Others relate to words, such as the science of the rare words of the Quran, Arabic grammar of the Quran, the science of the miracle of the Quran, the science of tafsir (exegesis), and the principles of tafsir.
(e) Others relate to the discussions of meanings related to the verses of rulings, such as the general that remains general, the specific, the absolute and the qualified, the abrogating and the abrogated; all of these are sciences for which classifications and works have been written, which indicates the greatness of this eternal book whose wonders will never cease until the Day of Judgment.
What are our duties towards the Quran ?
1-Belief in the Quran as the word of Allah, its letters and meanings, and that it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. Belief that it is uncreated and eternally preserved by Allah. As Allah says:{يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا آمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَالْكِتَابِ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ وَالْكِتَابِ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَمَنْ يَكْفُرْ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ ضَلَالًا بَعِيدًا} [النساء: 136] , Belief in the Quran is one of the six articles of faith, as mentioned in the hadith of Gabriel.
2-One of our rights towards the Quran is to recite and memorize it. Allah has described this as the best investment, as He says:{إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَتْلُونَ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَأَنْفَقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ سِرًّا وَعَلَانِيَةً يَرْجُونَ تِجَارَةً لَنْ تَبُورَ} [فاطر: 29]
Muslims should establish a daily routine of Quranic recitation, aiming to complete the entire Quran at least once a month. They should prioritize this practice and avoid distractions that are not conducive to their spiritual growth.
3- It is also our right to implement the Quran and seek justice based on its rulings.
And the Prophet, peace be upon him, and his companions were the first to act upon the Quran. For Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, was asked about the character of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and she said to the questioner: "Don't you read the Quran?" He said, "Yes." She said, "Then the character of the Prophet, peace be upon him, was the Quran." (Narrated by Muslim)
4- And it is also one of its rights to learn it and teach it. On the authority of `Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:خيركم من تعلَّم القرآن وعلمه (رواه البخاري).
Indeed, teaching the Quran is a great door of inviting people to Allah, the Almighty, and one of its fields; as Allah, the Exalted, says:{وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ قَوْلًا مِمَّنْ دَعَا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا وَقَالَ إِنَّنِي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ} [فصلت: 33]
Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: "The call to Allah, the Almighty, occurs in various ways, one of the noblest of which is teaching the Quran.
Therefore, a Muslim should be keen to learn the Quran and master its recitation, and he should strive hard in this. It is not befitting for a Muslim who has spent many years studying and learning, then when he recites the Quran, he does not give proper attention to its letters and words, and his situation is not like that of someone who is excused due to a weak education. Among the means of learning and mastering it: reciting it to a qualified reciter, listening to it frequently, and realizing that it is the speech of the Creator, the Exalted.
5- Pondering over it, understanding it, and being humble when reciting it; as Allah, the Exalted, says: {أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ} [النساء: 82] وقال تعالى: {وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ} [القمر: 17]، and Says {وَيَخِرُّونَ لِلْأَذْقَانِ يَبْكُونَ وَيَزِيدُهُمْ خُشُوعًا} [الإسراء: 109].
6- Listening to it frequently, either directly from a reciter or through a recording; for it is reported in both Sahih collections from Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: The Prophet, peace be upon him, said to me, "Recite the Quran to me." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, shall I recite to you, upon whom it was revealed?" He said, "Indeed, I love to hear it from others." So I recited Surah An-Nisa' to him until I reached this verse.{فَكَيْفَ إِذَا جِئْنَا مِنْ كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ بِشَهِيدٍ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ عَلَى هَؤُلَاءِ شَهِيدًا} [النساء: 41]
He said, "That is enough for you now, so turn your attention to him, and you will find his eyes filled with tears.
7- Listening attentively when hearing it; as Allah, the Exalted, says: {وَإِذَا قُرِئَ الْقُرْآنُ فَاسْتَمِعُوا لَهُ وَأَنْصِتُوا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ} [الأعراف: 204] ، And the verse generally indicates the permissibility of listening to the Quran when it is recited, and listening attentively means remaining silent while listening.
8- Adhering to good manners towards it; by ensuring that only the pure may touch the Quran. Therefore, one who is in a state of major impurity should not recite it until they have purified themselves, as Allah, the Exalted, says: {لَا يَمَسُّهُ إِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُونَ} [الواقعة: 79]
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "None shall touch the Quran except the pure," and that it should not be touched with the left hand, as a sign of respect for it. It should not be thrown away or torn, but rather preserved. If it is torn, it should not be thrown away, but burned and buried in a clean place. Nothing should be placed on it, but it should be placed higher than other things, for it is elevated and nothing is elevated above it. One should not lean on it, nor sit on anything containing a Quran, such as a bag or a desk. All of this is out of respect for the Book of Allah, the Exalted, and adherence to good manners towards it.
"We implore Allah, the Exalted, to place us among those who truly understand and recite His Book, the Quran, and to bless us with the proper etiquette in its recitation. May we be granted the ability to recite it day and night.
